Michael J. Romero was raised in Carmel Valley... a true Local! He’s has always been drawn to the creative and artistic world. His first time on stage was in the original Jamesburg Players production of Oklahoma. He then pursued a career in dance and musical theater & traveled almost around the globe on a cruise ship at the age of 20.

Michael has always had a keen eye for design! Starting out his career in 1990, he worked for LA’s biggest catering company, Along Came Mary. Michael started in the kitchen at movie premieres and in private homes. He moved to the floor quickly, setting up creative buffets and table-scapes for big events and private dinners, which eventually led him to floral arrangements.

Michael went on to work in both high-end and low-end flower shops, learning both the fast pace needs and artistic floral designs that come with private clientele.

At a private catering dinner in the Hollywood Hills, Michael met an incredible event planning duo Billy & Brian Butchkavitz, event planners for HBO. Under Billy & Brian’s guidance, Michael learned and gained knowledge of both the floral design and Events & Weddings industry.

In 2015, Michael was thinking of moving back to Monterey. His sister, Sadie Kvenild, informed him about a job at Pebble Beach. Although, he  wasn’t ready to make that commitment yet. But a year later, to the day, he saw the same job available. June of 2016, Michael found himself at Pebble Beach as the Assistant Manager of the Floral and Event Design Department. Pebble Beach is known for their extravagant Weddings, Holiday Brunches at the lodge and over the top design pieces for corporate events year round. Michael was so honored and grateful to have been part of the team lead by Erica Head.

In 2021, Michael went back to where it all began, Carmel Valley, and opened up Valley Flores Designs, a studio for Events & Weddings, Home & Garden, (give a little face lift to areas of the home) and Florals with unique gifts. Carmel Valley has welcomed and is supportive of this unique endeavor. Michael knows customer service & integrity is key, along with imagination & passion!
